Is it just me, or have the iPhone/iPod Touch games been getting more and more recognition from console developers these days? Case in point: the two most recent “big title” games that were released in the App store both come from Konami’s Digital Entertainment division, with Dance Dance Revolution S and its most recent release, Metal Gear Solid Touch.
DDRS is something that I’ve been enjoying a lot lately, and the ramp in difficulty in later modes only makes me appreciate the blister-less glass screen all the more. I’ll probably check out MGST at some point (its retailing for $7.99 right now), but reviews seem to be mixed.
Other games I’ve been playing: Resident Evil 5 co-op with a friend – only two chapters in, but I’m having fun; Watchmen: Justice is Coming – another iPhone game, a simplified MMO actually, but while it was only $0.99, connection/server problems make it almost unplayable. I also have a Killzone 2 review still waiting in the wings (finally!),
Hollywood, CA (February 20, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — The movie that has been on the top 100 hundred downloads on the iTunes store for over a year launches today as a game on Apple's App Store for a limited time pricing of 99 cents! SHOOTER! The Official Movie Game takes you into an action-packed adventure where everything is a target and your iPhone or iPod touch is the weapon.
KEY GAME FEATURES:
- Over 30 High Stakes Sniping Levels: Earn medals and rewards through the successful completion of dangerous assignments while progressing through training sessions and multiple missions that feature challenging bosses.
- Large Arsenal of Guns, Weapons, Equipment and Camouflage - Choose from different sniper rifles, silencers, and scopes to neutralize hostiles from long range or use pistols, grenades, and pipe bombs to take out your targets in close quarters combat. Dress to match your surroundings and to elude return fire.
- First Person Sniper Perspective - Use the accelerometer to zero in on your targets with your binoculars and scope. Distance and wind must also be factored into your shot.
- Nighttime Missions - Use night vision to target your enemy in a variety of challenging shooting conditions.
- Detailed Mission Environments - Execute missions in the deserts, cityscapes, forests, mountains and snow, each of which requires specialized skills.
- Mini-Games and Puzzles - Successfully complete these tasks to continue through the storyline. Use your varied skill set, to cleverly pass the deadly games.
The landscapes in the game are exquisitely crafted using high quality 3D map vector graphics and players are provided with a 180 degree adjustable 3D vision scope. The shooting experience is also greatly enhanced by the accompanying realistic voiceover and audio stimulation.
Overcome the odds to uncover the conspiracy and clear your name. And don't forget to visit the iTunes Shooter movie page and add this film to your iTunes movie library.
Fastlane Street Racing
Judging from the screenshots and gameplay video, FSR has the most impressive graphics out of all the current racers available in the App Store, and will most likely give upcoming racer, Need for Speed, a run for its money.
Out of the list of features, the most interesting is the ability to save and review replays, hopefully they also provide a way to share saved replays. The only thing better than sharing top scores with your friends is to show them how you did it.
Fastlane Street Racing appears to be a solid racer with a great list of features, one feature I’d really like to see included is some option for multiplayer either over WiFi or even better yet, Internet.
New from the good people at Vivendi Games comes Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D. It claims to be (and is) the richest 3D kart racing experience on the iPhone. Hop on your cart and race through 12 tracks. Battle your opponents and run them off the road using one of your 8 crazy weapons.
To drive, simply take your iPhone and tilt it left and right to steer! Controls are intuitive, and gameplay is pretty darn fun. This title will be enjoyable for anyone that logged a ton of hours playing Crash Bandicoot on the old Playstation.
I’ve read multiple reports that the game does slow down quite a bit, in the middle of gameplay. That could be quite infuriating! In the App Store the game is getting mixed reviews… even though the average rating is 4 out of 5 stars!
